DMS i-Cube Portable Media Player PMP-1000

大屏幕,高清晰度,触摸屏,大容量电池,固件可升级 不能播放VCD活和DVD

The product is actually manufactured and sold by a Korean company called Digital Cube Inc., under its iStation brand name. Back in October, we had done a Future Watch on it, and it's here already! The DMS i-Cube is simply an OEM version of that, with a really bad paint job and stickers!

Now let's take a more detailed look at it, feature wise.

Video Player
As mentioned above, the primary supported formats are AVI (DivX, XviD) and MPG (MPEG). It says VCDs are supported on the specs list, but DAT files didn't play. DAT is basically a wrapper for MPEG 2.5 files, so it should have played it, but it refused to play it even after renaming the file. Since it says MPEG-4 support, we tried unencrypted DVD VOBs and even those didn't work. In fact, the format support is so strict that it plays only DivX or XviD encoded AVIs (in addition to regular MPGs). We tried playing an uncompressed AVI and it didn't work! Another problem was with ASF/WMV that's supported "via transcoding", which means there's some software to convert those files into a format that the i-Cube would understand. But there's no such software included, which means you'll have to rely on third-party tools to do the job. Just to try our luck, we loaded the player with a bunch of WMV and MOV files, but it played neither.

But if you think about it, most of us have MPGs or DivX/XviD AVIs that we may want to carry around to watch on a trip. I personally have no MOVs and I avoid WMVs and RMs, so I am extremely content with the format support. It played back nearly 99% of all the DivX/XviDs/MPGs I dumped on to it, even some which didn't play back on my PC.
